What is the highest recorded temperature in my hometown? How many days of rain did we have last year? How many days of snow? How much has the average temperature increased… Or has it decreased?
The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) came to us with an assignment to bring the collected historical weather data to life. To make the parameters and values both more accessible and more easily understandable. We started by asking ourselves what we wanted to know about the weather in the past, for example, if there really was more snow when we were little or if the summers really were as hot as we remember? We also asked the intended target group what they wanted to know and brought it into line with all the weather data that the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute had saved. In order to present everything in an easily accessible format, we used different types of visualization tools, timelines, and diagrams. Simplicity as well as easy access on all devices and screens of all sizes were some of the guidelines we had for the work.
"Hur var vädret?" (What was the weather like?) is bringing life to historical weather data collected by the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute SMHI.
